What is the Difference Between an iPhone & a Professional Camera
There are so many questions when it comes down to what equipment to use for a wedding. It is expensive to purchase a body camera, plus lenses, plus microphones, plus lights. All of these pieces of equipment can easily boost the price to more than $10,000. Whereas an iPhone only costs less than $2000 including a stabilizer. A quick answer to the above question is, it depends on the quality and style of the end video. Nowadays there are some high-quality iPhones with the capability to record in 4k and 60 frames per second. To enable 4k video recording at 60 fps on iPhone, you can go to Settings > Camera > Formats and turn on High Efficiency mode, which will switch the encoding from H. 264 to HEVC. Then you can tap back button at the top left corner. click Record Video, and choose 4k at 60 fps mode. So, to answer the question, “can you film a wedding only on an iPhone” you need to read below.
What is the Difference Between iPhone vs Sony a7siii Camera?
From the start I would say this is an unfair comparison. Because you have an iPhone which has so many more capabilities than a camera. A camera is made to only record or take pictures. Versus an iPhone which is made to make calls, download and access a variety of applications, take pictures or videos, and some other functions.
In the above photo the iPhone 12 Pro did not stack up well against the a7s iii when it came to autofocus, it did significantly outperform the Sony in footage stabilization.
The best way to compare the two would be to record actual footage and see the quality of each by going through certain actions. I highly recommend you watch this video to have a better understanding of how it looks.

Professional Camera or iPhone?
Finally, I would say that in the video above the iPhone did a pretty good job at holding up the quality versus the dedicated video camera. Although I still believe this is a pretty unfair comparison to make, the results were not as bad as I expected them to be. Although it seems like Apple did a pretty good job at creating a good camera for their iPhones, having a professional camera is much better. Here at Tone Films Production we have never tried to film a wedding only on an iPhone. But it is something we plan on trying out, on top of our professional equipment.
