FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does video production cost in NYC?

Most Tone Films NYC video production projects start at $8,500 for a focused one-day shoot (single location, two-person crew, edited 60–90 second deliverable). A typical multi-day brand campaign runs $15,000–$45,000. Six-figure budgets apply to large-scale commercial productions with talent, multi-location, and broadcast deliverables. We provide a fixed quote within 24 hours of a discovery call.

A standard one- to two-minute brand video typically runs 3–5 weeks from kickoff to final delivery: one week of pre-production, one day to one week of shooting, and two to three weeks of editing, motion graphics, color, and sound. Rush turnarounds (5–10 business days) are available for an expedite fee.

Concept development, scriptwriting, storyboards, casting, location scouting and permits, full production crew (director, DP, sound, gaffer, PAs), professional cinema cameras (Sony FX6/FX9, RED, ARRI), lighting, audio, post-production editing, motion graphics, music licensing, sound mix, color grade, and delivery in every format your platforms need.

Almost always, yes. NYC’s Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) requires a free permit for any shoot on city property using a tripod, lighting, or a crew larger than two people. Permits also require certificates of insurance. Tone Films handles the entire permit process for every NYC project as part of pre-production.

Every borough. Most frequently: Midtown Manhattan, the Financial District, SoHo, Tribeca, Chelsea, the Upper West Side, Williamsburg, DUMBO, Bushwick, Greenpoint, Long Island City, and Astoria. We also routinely shoot in Westchester, Nassau, and across the Hudson in Jersey City and Hoboken.

Yes. Tone Films has crews and production hubs in Dallas, Plano, Fort Worth, Oklahoma City, and Miami. We routinely produce multi-city campaigns and have shot for national clients in all 50 states.

Every Tone Films project includes two full revision rounds in post-production. Additional rounds are billed hourly and quoted upfront. Most clients approve at round one or two — our pre-production process is built to make the edit predictable.

Whatever your platforms need: 16:9 master, 1:1 and 9:16 social cuts (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn), captioned versions, broadcast-spec ProRes 422 HQ, web-optimized H.264, and any client-specific specs (Meta Ads Manager, OTT/CTV, in-store displays).

Yes. Roughly 70% of our NYC clients hire us for full creative — concept, script, treatment, and production. The remaining 30% bring their own script or agency-developed creative and use us as a production partner. Both models are priced separately and quoted on the discovery call.

Three reasons. First, story-first creative — we’re not a vendor, we’re a creative partner who develops the idea before we touch a camera. Second, a deep client roster (Grey Goose, KFC, Capgemini, Hendrick’s Gin, Waste Management, Tabasco, the American Heart Association) with 259 five-star reviews. Third, NYC pricing without NYC overhead inflation — boutique studio responsiveness, agency-grade output.
